DEFINITIONS:
The code of conduct that follows defines various areas of student involvement or behavior. These statements are followed by appropriate disciplinary consequences listed from the least to the most severe.
Possible consequences include:
Level 1:
1. Verbal reprimand – a verbal warning by a staff member.
2a. Teacher Detention – quiet study hall supervised by a staff member. Detention is held from 2:35
3:14 in the teachers room or designated area. Students must be present at the beginning of the detention period. Failure to report will result in an added penalty.
2b. Administrative Detention – students will remain until 3:15.
3. Loss of privileges – (bus riding, field trips, etc.).
Level 2:
1. In-school Suspension – a quiet supervised study in which a student is not in contact with other students. Specific rules will be given to each student to read and acknowledge.
2. Out-of-school Suspension – removal from school. This should be a parent-supervised detention at home for the days assigned. A parental conference is required before a student is readmitted.
A. For up to 5 days: The Building Principal has the authority to suspend a student for up to 5 school days for violations of public law or school policy.
B. Beyond 5 days – Suspension in excess of 5 school days, including permanent suspensions, may be imposed by the Superintendent or the Board of Education upon a pupil who is insubordinate or disorderly or whose conduct otherwise endangers the safety, morals, health or welfare of others.
3. Parental Conference – A meeting of parent(s), guardian(s), administrator(s), and/or teacher(s) to discuss student behavior.
At any point in the disciplinary process, a student and/or staff member has the option to request a conference.
4. Loss of the privilege to attend or participate in extra-curricular activities for a designated period of time.
Referral to other agencies – Acts within the school that constitute a crime will be reported to the proper legal authorities (police, family court, etc.). Other behaviors may result in referral to PINS diversion program, substance abuse assessment programs, etc.
The district has the power to establish specific, unique guidelines of behavior for chronic misbehavior.
It is also understood that the administration has the prerogative of exceeding steps in the Discipline Code, depending on the seriousness of the situation.
