Thank you to all of our students that helped make the Big Brothers/Big Sisters school based mentoring program a success again this year! In its 18th year at Argyle, the program facilitates one-to-one relationships between high school students and elementary students and makes a positive difference in all of their lives. Studies have shown that mentoring can impact many areas in a young person’s life. This may include healthier relationships, improved self-confidence, and a less likelihood to use drugs or alcohol or commit crimes. Mentoring can also improve success in school leading to opportunities including higher education.

Students met together once a week between November and June. Activities included large group games like basketball and kickball or individualized activities like walks and board games. This year, volunteers included four seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. Elementary students in grades four through six participated and were referred by teachers, parents and themselves!
